Description:
Job Purpose
To oversee the production of wood wafers by processing logs through Waferizer and Debarker.
In this position you will have the opportunity to:
- Operates equipment controls to regulate speed of logs on conveyor, to cut logs and transfer wafers to set bins
- Coordinates process with Dryer Operator and Crane Operator
- Assists in changing knives, as needed
- Identifies control panel problems and operational problems
- Blows down waferizer area to maintain clean equipment
- Corrects log jams; unplugs bark from belts
- Monitors wafers going to wet bins and removes oversized wafers
- Expected to maintain 100% compliance with Environmental, Housekeeping standards, policies for area
- Expected to train other designated individuals safely and efficiently in operation of Waferizers
- Inspects and conducts routine preventative maintenance on Waferizers, Debarkers, Bark Systems
- Carry out Strand Geometry analysis and prepare reports
- Understand knife projections/knife angle and how to reduce variation to produce proper flake
- Perform all duties in accordance with safety rules and regulations
- Complete control plans and operational check sheets to monitor production process
- Perform other assigned duties and responsibilities as necessary
What do I need to be successful?
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Basic mechanical skills
- Knowledge of CAE Waferizer components, maintenance, and inspection routine
- Ability to operate pneumatic air tools and use measuring devices
- Ability to operate waferizer, chainsaw and air hose
- Forklift certified, ability to operate Front End Loader
- Ability to read and follow complex directions
- Ability to interpret data and prepare report
- Ability to read and understand safety rules and regulations
Minimum Requirements:
- Crane operating experience
- In good standings with attendance/job performance
- Excellent manual dexterity, visual acuity and depth perception, eye/hand coordination
- Ability to maintain required documentation
- Ability to read, understand and follow safety rules and regulations
Essential Functions:
- Required to climb, bend, stoop, squat, life up to 50 pounds
- Ability to enter confined spaces and work at substantial heights
- Ability to work with extremely sharp instruments
- Ability to work under stress when equipment fails
