Job Description: 

Job Purpose

As a Quality Technician in Watkins, MN, the candidate will be responsible to ensure the product and process meets specifications set forth by our regulatory body, internal standards and external standards.  The right candidate must posses the right aptitude and attitude to support and aid in problem-solving process or product related concerns.   This facility produces LP FlameBlock, an OSB product that has a coating applied to assist with flame spread in residential, commercial, along with additional applications.  

Hourly wage range:  $23.50 to $37.12 DOQ.  Full benefits package to include:  Medical, Dental, Vision, Paid Time Off Bank, Life Insurance, Disability Insurance, Tuition Assistance Program, Health Savings Account, Pet Insurance, Legal Plan, Paid Holidays, 401K & Profit Sharing with up to 5% Company match.

In this position you will have the opportunity to:

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Perform all work in accordance with safety rules and regulations and participate in facility health & safety activities as assigned.
  • Verify product standards are met through statistical analysis of product and process measurements and observations.
  • Ensure all relevant quality requirements are consistently met according to the Quality manual, plant specific SOPs, APA regulatory guidelines and the Packaging and Appearance Manual.
  • Ensure that non-conforming product is appropriately quarantined, identified and segregated according to standard procedures.
  • Analyze and evaluate quarantined product to determine disposition in accordance with product standards.
  • Record testing and inspection results, input into appropriate database or spreadsheets. Identify and respond to statistical trends or non-conforming process measures and test values.
  • Lead process and product tests/trials as assigned and compile, analyze, and report trial test results as required.
  • Be pro-active in identifying and performing other tasks to maintain and improve safety, quality and environmental performance.
  • Modify and create process and product SOPs and JSAs
  • Provide guidance and leadership to plant employees with respect to adherence to process control plans
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

What do I need to be successful?

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Knowledge of and ability to follow safety and environmental standards and procedures.
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow all quality and process standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a computer and supporting software, to include spreadsheet and statistical packages.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing equipment and production processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate sample preparation and testing equipment.
  • Knowledge of inventory management.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient math skills and statistical knowledge, including SPC concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a variety of material handling equipment (both hand tools and electrical/motorized equipment)
  • Demonstrated ability to work while wearing a respirator and/or other safety clothing or equipment.

 

Education & Experience:

  • ASQ certifications, Lean Six Sigma training, or other applicable training desired
  • 2+ years quality experience
  • Combination of experience, education, or training that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position; manufacturing experience preferred.

 

Additional Key Responsibilities

 

  • Conduct yearly quality manual and control plan review; update as required
  • Obtain, file, and track COA's (raw materials)
  • Travel up to 10% as required
  • Responsible to be the primary manufacturing plant contact for third party and corporate internal audits for product compliance or quality.  Assist in developingand implementing corrective actions as a result of audits
  • Manage plant calibration and verification schedules for process and lab equipment
  • Assist in quality training for new hires

Work Environment

  • The lab and manufacturing environment includes exposure to moving parts, fumes, chemicals, airborne particles and high temperatures.
  • The employee must have the ability to climb, bend, stoop, kneel, work in inclement weather, and work with elevated noise levels.
  • The position requires the ability to frequently lift equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
