Job Purpose

Build and lead a Technical Field Sales team for all businesses; participate in the process of setting and executing strategic sales goals for designated regions/markets through value-added field services, installation training and installation programs, and technical strategy; provide technical guidance to each Business Team as it relates to codes, product application and new product development.

In this position you will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead the Field Technical Sales team for each LP business and align the work activities to support the field sales team growth goals and business teams’ strategic objectives
  • Build strong working relationships with multiple internal stakeholders and own the relationship with the key contractors
  • Lead and participate in setting and executing strategic sales goals for designated regions/markets through value-added technical services to customers, builders, contractors, distributors, dealers, specifiers and third party officials
  • Provide product application engineering leadership to internal and external stakeholders and resolution of field compliance issues
  • Build the capability to provide one-off and standardized AutoCAD/Revit installation details
  • Assist in creating value proposition through product and assembly engineering and analysis
  • Perform mockup, installation training and audit for large commercial jobs. Must be able to build a team that can communicate to framers and design professionals the proper application of LP products and provide pre-construction and installation support.
  • Propose unique solutions to meet changes in the building codes
  • Develop and provide technical presentations to new customers, builders, and municipalities; ensure that all technical presentations provide uniform technical message regarding the LP product portfolio
  • Ensure that all levels of product certifications are maintained and approvals for new certifications are developed as required
  • Lead the collaborative effort with all relevant code bodies on all issues impacting LP products; ensure that LP products and associated systems meet local needs in critical markets
  • Lead the development of industry standards through various associations, agencies and departments that serve the interests of LP and its customers.
  • Lead the development/updating of new/current training materials for customers, builders, contractors, distributors, dealers, specifiers and third party officials
  • Research and engineer best practices and provide technical overviews to new customers, builders, and municipalities including a staffed toll-free technical help line
  • Train new and existing customers on proper product application, installation and maintenance that meets the LP standard
  • Lead the training effort of LP team members in order to ensure competence and confidence in the proper installation of LP products
  • Represent LP as the technical expert in legal processes
  • Act as the technical liaison between LP and remanufactures from the prefinisher on LP siding to panel plants for LSL or FlameBlock
  • Design value-added product applications for evolving wall assemblies, in collaboration with Sales, Marketing, and business teams
  • Represent LP in the field and provide LP leadership with on the ground assessments of current and future competitive threats
  • Home office with frequent overnight travel required to work with direct reports and to meet with engineers, specifiers, code officials, builders, contractors, and customers.

What do I need to be successful?

  • 10  years’ experience in the housing, building science, or building products industry
  • Proven experience leading direct reports in a matrix organization; Or any equivalent combination of experience and education that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position
  •  Excellent understanding of single family and light commercial building practices
  • Demonstrated competence in building science
  • Has experience in leading and managing a highly effective and cohesive team of technical sales professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead executive level compelling technical presentations to drive revenue
  • Excellent understanding of market developments, competitor knowledge and industry trends
  • Build and maintain VP and executive level relationships with key installers and builders.
  • Knowledge of all building codes and the organizations that govern them
  • Competence in quality management processes and six sigma tools
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the manufacturing processes
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and ability to influence others

Bonus Points If You…

  • Experience in wood composites industry is desirable
  • Ability to operate effectively within multidiscipline cross-functional teams
  • Proven experience leading a technical sales team to drive revenue in strategic areas focus around single family builders and multifamily builders.

Education

  • Education/degree in building science, basic sciences, architecture or related fields, or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates capability.
