Job Purpose

To assist the WESP Technician in assuring that all plant activities follow environmental laws, regulations, and L-P policies.

  • Maintains strict adherence to all safety rules and regulations and inspects & maintains all safety equipment related to WESP operation
  • Maintenance of emissions control devices, primarily the Wet Electrostatic Precipitator (WESP) and Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO)
  • Responsible for water management system including daily testing, chemical addition, ordering supplies, etc (caustic, defoamer, pH, solids).
  • Responsible for waste management system including changeout of roll off containers and monitoring shipments.
  • Maintain spare parts inventory and order supplies when necessary.
  • Plan and execute preventive maintenance plan including downtime activities, ensuring maintenance plans are executed and records maintained for compliance certification

 

In this position you will have the opportunity to:

  • Monitor hazardous material storage and management practices (Caustic)
  • Monitor and inspect combustion sources (dryer) and control equipment (WESP, RTO) and complete operating records for compliance.
  • Participate in Haz-Com training for caustic as needed.
  • Conduct inspections of pollution control devices and systems.
  • Conduct compliance inspections with written documentation.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports documenting that plant operations are complying
  • Responsible for area housekeeping.
  • Performs visual emissions readings using EPA method 9 standards during bakeouts or upset conditions and records results.

 

What do I need to be successful?

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work and problem solve quickly and efficiently to minimize interruptions.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Visible Emissions Evaluator Certification
  • Performance of all duties in accordance with safety rules and regulations
  • Ability to use computers, confined space monitor, pH meter, pressure differential meters, and solids testing equipment.
  • Ability to understand environmental laws and permit requirements
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude
  • Knowledge of plant operations and emission controls systems

 

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years manufacturing experience
  • Forklift and aerial lift certification

Work Environment

  • Ability to lift 75 lbs.
  • Work in confined spaces
  • Work in hot environments
  • Work around and with hazardous materials
  • Standing
  • Required to bend, lift, squat, stoop, and climb
  • Some travel required for training and certifications
  • Indoor / Outdoor / Heights – prepare to go anywhere
  • Work near High Voltage Equipment
