JOB PURPOSE

Support the Applied Technology team in providing expertise in problem solving, paint/coatings and being technical support to the Growth and Innovation groups at LP.  Identify, develop, and implement technologies and new products that improve customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, product quality, and business profitability.

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

We'd love to meet you if you..

  • Are a paint expert – Specifically familiar with water-based, low VOC technology

  • Are familiar with a variety of paint application methods

  • Working with Quality team to ensure that the priming and prefinish lines are running within established specifications.

  • Understand and be current with the latest process technologies

  • Assisting with running paint trials related to evaluating new paint systems, application equipment and changes in paint drying parameters.

  • Familiar with ASTM tests for paints/coatings. Extremely familiar and capable of conducting many of these tests

  • Communicate and work effectively with Safety, Engineering, R&D, Marketing & Sales, Environmental, & Manufacturing

  • Technical report writing on work conducted and trial findings.

  • Assume responsibility for personal safety and for the safety performance of all personnel, projects, and programs managed

  • Comfortable working in an industrial work environment and/or a fast-paced workplace

  • Supporting new product development

  • Working on cross-functional teams as a contributor, collaborator, and team player.

QUALIFICATIONS: SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY

  • Expertise in general scientific research practices, statistical analysis of data, full-scale and lab-scale product manufacturing technology, equipment, process operating parameters and product attributes

  • Knowledge of the building products industry, equipment, processes, and major equipment suppliers

  • Comprehensive understanding of the major machine/process centers used in product manufacturing

  • Creative problem solving.  Looks at challenges in multiple ways and being open to trying new ideas

  • Able to intuitively see how things work – mechanically inclined

  • Ability to apply mathematics, science, and engineering to a variety of complex business problems

  • Familiarity with R&D work processes and project management practices

  • Good business acumen and technical judgment

  • Ability to function effectively on multi-disciplinary teams, and with co-workers at all levels and in various departments

  • Ability to communicate effectively across a wide spectrum of disciplines

  • Skilled in Microsoft Suite

 

EDUCATION 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific and/or engineering discipline 

 

EXPERIENCE 

  • 5+ years of experience in the Paint and Coatings industry

  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

  • Office, laboratory, and manufacturing environments

  • Moderate to heavy travel requiring a flexible schedule (50-75% of time)
