Job Purpose

Manage complex engineering assignments including standards or specifications, parts, components and systems associated with focused areas of major capital projects. Completes work in accordance with standard engineering principles & practices, industry design standards and local, state and national codes or regulations.

In this position you will have the opportunity to:

  • Develop and maintain system and/or equipment design standards and specifications that are consistent with industry standards such as FM, NFPA, OSHA, etc.
  • Provide conceptual design support for engineering activities associated with a major project initiative
  • Lead internal or external design groups as necessary to guide the successful implementation of LP’s standards
  • Lead detailed design efforts of automation and process systems that integrate machinery components such as conveyors, pumps, fans, cyclones, filters, compressors, presses, saws, power transmission devices, hydraulic systems, piping, ducting, etc…
  • Lead development efforts of facility utilities and services such as roadways, parking lots, water, sewer, drainage, electric power, natural gas or propane systems, compressed air, foundations, buildings, fire suppression, lighting, communications, etc….
  • Lead installation, construction and commissioning activities associated with a focused area of a major project initiative
  • Responsible for the design, budget and execution schedule for a focused area of the major project initiative.
  • Conduct benchmarking and competitive research to keep up with best-of-class practices and to assure that our capital implementation methods lead the industry
  • Lead collection and data gathering efforts required to conduct engineering evaluations, scope of work development, preliminary or detailed design specifications and coordination of installation or construction efforts
  • Assume responsibility for personal safety and for the safety performance of all personnel, projects and programs managed.
  • Work closely with other Corporate Functions including Supply Management, Audit, Financial Services, Environmental Services and Information Technology to assure conformance with corporate policy
  • Conduct special projects/studies, as opportunities arise, relating to technology and capital effectiveness
  • Moderate to heavy travel requiring a flexible schedule is required

What do I need to be successful?

  • 6-8 years’ experience as a practicing professional in one or more of the following fields; engineering, capital project support
  • Demonstrated experience in leading cross-functional capital project teams
  • Or any combination of experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position
  • Thorough understanding of engineering software such as AutoCad, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Project
  • Knowledge of building products industry, equipment, and processes
  • The ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering to a variety of manufacturing problems
  • The ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data
  • The ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs
  • The ability to identify, formulate and solve engineering problems
  • The ability to use the techniques, skills and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice

Education

  • BS in Engineering, Applied Science, or related field
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license desirable

Work Environment

  • Remote work with up to 50% travel
  • If in the Nashville, TN area work from Corporate office twice a week
  • Must be close to an airport for travel purposes
