Job Purpose
Manage the national and regional certifications for Structural Solutions and OSB products. Work closely with the Technology and Innovation teams to ensure product designs will meet building code requirements. Collaborate with the Legal and Marketing teams on product literature and product warranty reviews. Provide support for internal and external customers in solving design issues. Actively represent LP at the pertinent organizations to ensure our products remain aligned with building codes and product and test standards. Accomplish goals in support of the OSB business strategy.
In this position you will have the opportunity to:
- Ability to effectively represent LP at codes, standards and evaluation organizations in the US and Canada, such as:
- US: APA, ASTM, AWC, ICC, ICC-ES, Intertek, UL
- Canada: CCMC, CWC, FPInnovations, NRC, ULC
- Obtain and maintain national and, as needed, regional certifications for LP products.
- Provide technical product support to internal and external customers.
- Provide technical review of marketing assets.
- Collaborate with Legal to develop and maintain product warranties.
- Strong math and computer skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to use common construction tools for fabrication of various small- and large-scale test specimens (walls, roofs, floors). Tools used include hand tools (hammer, screwdriver, etc.), pneumatic nailer, circular and table saw, drill, etc.
What do I need to be successful?
- 10 years’ experience in design and/or construction of residential and/or commercial structures, in the manufacturing of engineered wood products or in related fields.
- Working knowledge of US building codes related to structural design and fire-resistant construction.
- Familiarity with building envelope requirements (water-resistive barriers, air barriers, insulation, etc.) desirable.
- Familiarity with Canadian codes desirable.
- Familiar with code-referenced design and product standards for wood products, such as:
- AWC design standards: NDS, SDPWS, WFCM, FDS
- US DOC Product Standard PS 2
- ASTM test standards under committees: D07 Wood, E05 Fire, E06 Performance of Buildings
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. Advanced degree desirable. Emphasis on Structural Engineering preferred.
- Familiarity with wood as an engineering material, desirable.
- Professional Engineer or Structural Engineer license
Work Environment
- Home office and manufacturing environment
- Moderate travel required.
