Job Purpose

The primary purpose of this role is to leverage a strong process engineering background, combined with data analytics and technology, to validate, optimize, and enhance production processes. The successful candidate will apply engineering expertise to identify process bottlenecks and opportunities, recommending effective solutions. Additionally, this role will play a key support function during the commissioning and startup phases of capital and improvement projects. This involves utilizing data-driven modeling and analysis to expedite commissioning, validate process performance, and ensure seamless integration of new process systems.

The position requires a thorough understanding of plant operations, safety standards, manufacturing processes, product quality, engineering principles, and financial awareness. These skills will enable the candidate to contribute actively to special projects and continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.

In this position you will have the opportunity to:

  • Develop and maintain process flow documentation and drawings including simulations, PFDs, P&ID’s, & general arrangements.
  • Maintain mass & energy balance updates across all facilities.
  • Collaborate with R&D and other teams to integrate various technologies and process systems.    
  • Work with Growth and Innovation Development and Marketing during early product development to assure new processes and products are designed for manufacturability.
  • Collaborate with project managers on mid to large sized capital projects, providing process documentation and standard operating procedures.
  • Conduct special projects or studies related to installed technology and capital effectiveness as opportunities arise.
  • Engage with business or regional teams to support the development of their strategic and operating plans.
  • Recommends project submittals that align with business and functional objectives.
  • Conduct benchmarking and competitive analysis to stay ahead of industry best practices and ensure our manufacturing process technology remains at the forefront of the market.
  • Participate as a sponsor or team member in business process improvement initiatives within the company.
  • Ensure personal safety and the safety of all personnel involved in projects and programs.

What do I need to be successful?

Skills, knowledge, abilities:

  • Knowledge of building products industry, equipment, and processes.
  • Ability to apply statistical, mathematical, scientific, and engineering principles to solve complex business problems.
  • Proficiency in designing and conducting experiments and analyzing and interpreting data.
  • Ability to design systems, components, or processes to meet specific needs.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to identify, formulate, and solve engineering challenges.
  • An understanding of professional and ethical responsibility.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency with modern engineering tools and techniques necessary for practice.
  • Familiar with process modeling software, including but not limited to AutoCAD, FlexSim and MATLAB Simulink.
  • Knowledge of process control concepts and ideas.
  • The broad education and experience necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a business and manufacturing environment.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in one or more of the following fields: process engineering, continuous improvement, operations management.
  • Or any combination of experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Applied Science, or a related field (or equivalent).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is desirable.
  • 6-8 years of experience in a similar role as an equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree.

Work Environment

  • This position works in both an office environment and in a manufacturing environment.
  • Moderate to heavy travel requiring a flexible schedule is required.
  • Remote location is acceptable.
