Job Description: 

Job Purpose

Perform detailed controls design, development and maintenance on the mill networking and communication system to ensure continuous operation.  Support maintenance personnel on troubleshooting and repair of all network systems.  Perform routine maintenance and upgrades on existing equipment,

In this position you will have the opportunity to:

  • Develop and document specifications, plans, prints, schematics and other necessary documentation required to clearly communicate mill systems.
  • Develop detailed design of automation and process control systems that integrate PCs, PLCs, AC, HMI's, DC drives, position controllers and networks.
  • Integrate statistical control components into a system design including basic control charting, real time and historical trending, remote monitoring and data acquisition/control.
  • Develop, configure, install and debug PC and PLC communication networks that facilitate the collection and distribution of plant floor information to defined plant, business and maintenance personnel.
  • Cross train to provide support to Control's Engineer.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with all safety and environmental rules and regulations.

 

What do I need to be successful?

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Expert knowledge of electrical functions and a control's background.
  • Expert knowledge of equipment and tools.
  • Knowledge of PLC.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Time management, organizational and prioritizing skills.
  • Ability to read, write and interpret wiring and circuit diagrams.
  • Ability to read and understand safety and environmental rules and regulations.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays and rotating shifts.
  • Ability to wear a respirator.
  • Ability to operate mobile equipment.
  • Ability to work at heights.
  • Ability to hear and see approaching/in motion mobile equipment for safety and operation.

Education

  • Vocational degree preferred.
  • Michigan Electrical Journeyman’s License, or actively working toward obtaining the license.
  • Completion of PLC training required.

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of electrical experience, or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the key responsibilities of this role.

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing plant environment - sometimes with weather related hot/cold temperatures.
  • Can be dusty & dirty at times with moving machinery.
