Job Purpose

The Siding R&D Technician reports to the Plant Quality Supervisor to provide scientific and technical support for Siding R&D and  continuous improvement efforts by evaluating current and emerging products, processes, raw materials, process and quality improvement objectives, competitive products and claims for the Siding Business.ss.

In this position you will have the opportunity to:

  • •    Perform all work in accordance with safety and environmental rules and regulations and participate in facility health & safety & environmental (EHS) activities as assigned.
    •    Work effectively within a team environment with the testing, evaluation and reporting for projects assigned.
    •    Provide support for research related to implementation of new concepts/technology in LP plants.
    •    Ability to understand and follow test procedures by Louisiana-Pacific, APA, ASTM, CCMC and other industry test procedures.
    •    Identify and reduce causes of experimental error.
    •    Coordinate, plan, oversee, and conduct research preparations, trials and tests at business R&D Facilities and LP plants as necessary.
    •    Manage and maintain research and development records and databases in compliance with business, corporate, and certifying agency requirements
    •    Provide technical or project leadership to other team members.
    •    Assist with the management of plant calibration and verification schedules for process and lab instruments.
    •    Assist with the fabrication, installation, and inspection of new product test walls, sheds, and houses.
    •    Perform other duties as assigned

What do I need to be successful?

  • 3 years experience in process or product development, laboratory work or technical support role.
  • Or any equivalent combination of experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform responsibilities of this position
  • ASQ certifications, Lean Six Sigma training, or other applicable training
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and procedures specific to the manufacture of LP products.
  • Knowledge of scientific principles and testing procedures.
  • Knowledge of quality systems and quality control.
  • Strong skills in data analysis and mathematical and statistical calculations.
  • Proficient in standard MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint and various statistical analysis software.

Education

•    Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, Forest Products, Wood Science, or related field.
•    Adequate combination of experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the responsibilities.

Work Environment

•    Working with test equipment, test labs and manufacturing sites.
•    The lab and manufacturing environment includes exposure to moving parts, fumes, chemicals, airborne particles and high temperatures.  
•    The employee must have the ability to climb, bend, stoop, kneel, work in inclement weather, and work with elevated noise levels.   
•    The position requires the ability to frequently lift equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
•    Work schedule to be flexible to include outside schedule work hours.
•    Some travel required.
