Job Description: 

Job Purpose

Ensure manufacturing and secondary processes meet control specifications and finished product standards are met, either as a shift or day technician.  Provide problem-solving support to operations and secondary processes as needed.  Lead and facilitate projects to accomplish established objectives.

In this position you will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead and promote safe work behaviors and procedures.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment, including but not limited to the quality lab, raw material unloading and storage areas and quality test sample cutting and preparations areas.
  • Maintain current DOT/HAZMAT certifications for raw material unloading process.
  • Responsible for monitoring and maintaining compliance to the Quality System.
  • Develop and maintain a professional working relationships with other plant departments to achieve business and plant level goals.
  • Possess authority to place materials or product on QC Hold until appropriate disposition is determined.
  • Maintain SOPs for core areas of responsibility, including periodic review and drafting of revisions as need arises.
  • Responsible for assuring the quality of products Manufactured at the facility meets or exceeds specifications.
  • Serve as a resource to plant operations and other personnel on quality-related topics, procedures, specifications, etc.
  • Responsible for receipt and review of incoming raw materials COAs, inspections, unloading, testing and notification of any aberrant conditions.
  • Perform in-process inspections and testing.
  • Collect, process and analyze information and data as required.
  • Assist with training of new hires to the Quality Department as assigned.
  • Maintain training of self on applicable quality standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Report all quality related issues to the Plant Quality Manager and Plant Quality Supervisor.
  • Assist and support third party audits as assigned.
  • Cover shift tech and/or day tech role(s) as needed or assigned.
  • Assist on duty shift tech as needed or assigned.
  • Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by Quality Manager or Quality Supervisor.

What do I need to be successful?

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and ability to follow safety and environmental standards and procedures.
  • Knowledge of LP's quality system.
  • Knowledge of APA quality policies and standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a computer and supporting software, to include spreadsheet and statistical packages.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment and basic mechanical ability.
  • Ability to operator job related tools and equipment.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work while wearing a respirator and/or other safety clothing or equipment.

DAY TECHNICIAN

  • All knowledge, skills and abilities of a shift technician.
  • APA Level II certification required within first 12 months of position.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coach Shift Technicians in troubleshooting and resolving non-conformance issues.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a variety of material handling equipment (both hand tools and electrical/motorized equipment).

Education

Education:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Bachelors Degree preferred
  • ASQ certifications, Lean Six Sigma training, or other applicable training desirable.

Experience:

  • 4+ years.  
  • Or any equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position. Manufacturing experience preferred.

 

Work Environment

Manufacturing Plant Environment

  • The lab and manufacturing environment includes exposure to moving parts, fumes, chemicals, airborne particles and high temperatures.
  • The employee must have the ability to climb, bend, stoop, kneel, work in inclement weather, and work with elevated noise levels.
  • The position requires the ability to frequently lift equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
