Job Purpose

To implement corporate and business group policies, procedures, and programs at a plant. To act as an advocate for plant and Plant Manager with respect to environmental compliance programs, and to customize programs to the specific operations of the plant. To promote and ensure implementation of the plant level Environmental Management System (EMS).

In this position you will have the opportunity to:

  • Advise Plant Manager and Operations Environmental Manager on general environmental compliance issues
  • Report regulatory issues, including spills, releases and emergencies, as required by law
  • Oversee and promote the deployment of the plant level Environmental Management System; oversee existing EMS programs
  • Responsible for routine environmental reporting and recordkeeping
  • Schedule and manage potentially complex monitoring , sampling, and testing of permitted process and pollution control equipment for compliance.
  • Assist the Plant Manager in developing and implementing the Capital Project Management System (CPMS), including environmental reviews for complex or significant projects.
  • Monitor local, state, and federal environmental rulemaking
  • Strategize and participate in program planning activities at the plant business team level.
  • Coordinate and respond to EHS assessments at assigned locations; perform assessments as a member of a team
  • Participate in plant-level cross-functional teams on special projects as assigned
  • Assist the Plant Manager in budgeting for environmental activities
  • Complete environmental reviews for simple Capital Project Management System (CPMS) projects
  • Effectively interact with environmental regulators; accompany government inspectors on agency inspections
  • Assess the need for and arrange for appropriate environmental training through Human Resources Department.
  • Provide input to Facility Management regarding pollution control equipment operation and maintenance programs as related to permit requirements
  • Ability to wear a respirator
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs as needed.
  • Ability to work at heights
  • Ability to work for short periods in physically stressful situations required
  • Moderate travel and occasional extended work hours required

What do I need to be successful?

  • 3-5 years of experience in the Environmental field preferred.
  • Experience working in an industrial setting preferred
  • General knowledge of Federal and ability to learn Local and State environmental regulations
  • Effective leadership, interpersonal, organizational, and management skills, preferably in an industrial setting
  • Basic budgeting skills
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Science, Engineering or related field preferred
  • Certificates or licenses in specialized environmental areas helpful
