JOB PURPOSE: The Sustainability Specialist is responsible for supporting company-wide activities related to sustainability/ESG related programs and communications and helping advance our position as a leader in the building industry. In this role, the Sustainability Specialist will be focused on tracking key ESG metrics and performance data, supporting the integration of company- wide sustainability strategies and data systems, liaising with ESG agencies (SASB, ISS, MSCI, CDP) and updating company ESG information as required. This position partners with the all levels of the organization to support and execute LP’s Sustainability Strategy and will report to the Director, Sustainability & Public Policy.

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contribute to the development of a comprehensive ESG Strategy that is aligned with our business strategy and stakeholder expectations
  • Monitor and update reporting and disclosures to key industry reporting platforms, such as ISS and other disclosure programs utilized by the company.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to understand and assist with the tracking of key data related to our environmental impacts along with relevant social indicators
  • Support Director of Sustainability & Public Policy and SMEs on developing sustainability roadmaps, setting targets, and plans for achieving goals
  • Lead ESG reporting to rating agencies and external assessments on behalf of the company
  • Support the ESG Task Force and Climate/Carbon Council in the development of a comprehensive climate strategy
  • Engage with third parties to conduct GHG inventory and climate risk and opportunity assessments related to our operations and assets
  • Support the development and execution of the annual sustainability report with specific focus on the disclosure of ESG data and performance metrics
  • Work with IT and Data & Analytics teams to develop processes and procedures to ensure good data governance for all sustainability/ESG data
  • Conduct research and benchmarking to understand best practices to help inform company strategies
  • Engage with partners and global resources to stay informed on key ESG issues and topics relevant to the company
  • Contribute to the development of training resources for both internal and external stakeholders
  • Represent company interests on industry association committees as it relates to sustainability/ESG related topics
  • Other tasks as assigned

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of corporate sustainability/ESG functional processes and best practices
  • Understanding of ESG rating companies and frameworks (SASB, TCFD, GRI, CDP)
  • Strong relationship building skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and influence skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Outstanding analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams
  • Experience engaging with senior leaders, and other key internal and external stakeholders

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in sustainability, environmental science, or environmental management/engineering

 

Experience:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in the areas of sustainability or environmental management
  • Experience conducting GHG inventories (GHG Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions)
  • Experience with developing Life-cycle assessments (LCA) and Environmental Product Declarations (EPD)
  • Knowledge of energy efficiency auditing and management
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position.
