Job Purpose

Provide leadership and direction for new product development projects/programs which are directly associated with Siding Innovation strategic initiatives under the direction of the Sr. Marketing Innovation Manager to maximize product line profit contributions, market share and revenue including product and vision strategy creation and execution.  A technically acute individual that may lead efforts to identify, develop, and commercialize new products and/ or software. 

 

This position serves as a primary point of contact for new product development project-level management and communication including plans, schedules, status, issues, and risks and will assemble and lead cross-functional project teams through activities associated with project execution within the framework of approved scope, schedule, quality, resources, and budget. This position will work to facilitate progress and good communications between all groups related to the project and implement proven business practices to lead projects and help improve LP’s project management methodology.

 

This individual will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help maximize the benefit of LP new product development projects and improve the execution of project related business.  The Project Manager may supervise staff where applicable.

In this position you will have the opportunity to:

  • Provide leadership regarding the planning and execution of major projects or programs within the New Product Development, including project planning & design, project execution & management, and post-project monitoring.
  • Identify and lead product development projects with cooperation from Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, Engineering, all customer levels, suppliers, and other key business contacts as well as Software development projects with cooperation from IT, vendors and all customer levels and other key business contacts. 
  • Lead cross functional teams to flawlessly execute major projects, including sales blitzes, new product launches, major promotions, product repositioning and other key initiatives. 
  • Analyze and optimize routes to market in coordination with overall company channel strategy for assigned product lines.
  • Champion execution of strategic plans to further growth for our dealer strategy including new product development
  • Develop project charters, budgets, schedules, resourcing and required project artifacts in accordance with project management office (PMO) standards.
  • Ensure all project activities are executed in accordance with company and functional policies, procedures, and methods.
  • Establish and manage a project document control system that is consistent with established project management office (PMO) methods and procedures.
  • Review all project plans with appropriate stakeholders to ensure compliance with LP’s design standards, industry & professional standards, local, state and federal codes and regulations.
  • Communicate project status to all project team member stakeholders and management.
  • Conduct training & education, as required, for project team members and other personnel in the area of Project Management.
  • Work closely with other Corporate Functions including Operations, Marketing, Supply Management, Quality, Financial Services, Environmental Services, and Information Technology to assure conformance with corporate policy.
  • Conduct special projects/studies, as opportunities arise, relating to corporate and/or business value agenda.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

What do I need to be successful?

 Skills, knowledge, abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to implement Project Management practices, programs, and tools best practices.
  • Possess excellent working knowledge of Office and Project Management tools including Smartsheet, MS Project and the MS Office Suite.
  • Strong technical and business acumen.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently manage and keep projects on track.
  • Strong ability to problem solving skills.
  • Good conflict- resolution skills.
  • Experience with Project Portfolio Systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability in effective cross-functional management and supervisory practices.
  • Displays excellent analytical, mathematical, creative problem solving, communication, written and oral communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate ideas in both a technical and user-friendly language: both verbally and written.
  • The ability to function on multi-disciplinary teams.

  • A recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning.

Experience:

 

  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience as a practicing professional (5 associated with major project work) in one or more of the following fields: engineering, new product development, manufacturing,
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering large, complex projects through successful completion.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading large/complex cross functional project teams.
  • Or any combination of experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position. 

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering, Sciences, or related field.
  • Project Management Professional certification desirable

 

**(BS equivalency:  6-8 years project management experience)

Work Environment

  • This position may work in both a hybrid office environment and in a manufacturing environment.
  • <30% travel required.
