Job Purpose

The Global Trade Compliance Manager (GTCM) manages key contracts to support LP’s strategic relationships with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and governmental agencies. The GTCM is an integral part of the LP project management group closely managing cross-border compliance aspects of the LP supply chain and LP Building Solutions to maintain a solid and uninterrupted flow, with strategic focus on cost avoidance and adherence to budget. The GTCM develops and negotiates all facets of contracts with customs brokers. This includes strategic initiatives and studies for pre-qualification, benchmarking, and analysis for risk mitigation, and best performance in alignment with LP’s management objectives.

In this position you will have the opportunity to:

  • Development, implementation, documentation, and maintenance of comprehensive and efficient trade compliance initiatives for LP. Manage the day-to-day processing of export and import activities
  • Identify strategic training initiatives to elevate awareness and knowledge across the organization.
  • Develop and maintain a strategic project initiative (utilizing Hoshin principles) for LP’s Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plan (BCDR)
  • Exercise active collaboration with strategic teams during all facets of negotiating international proposals and contracts. Provide guidance and interpretation on INCOTERMS, discusses terms, roles and responsibilities of the parties, validates freight rates and routes for international projects, and evaluates tax implications
  • Analyze and interpret export and import regulations and maintains current knowledge of changes affecting the business
  • Manage Restricted Parties Screening program corporatewide
  • Review harmonized tariff codes and classifications for accuracy
  • Manage standardized self-audit and testing processes needed to identify potential trade compliance issues associated with operational procedures
  • Strategically focus on employing technology for optimizing data transfer
  • Strategic and financial assessment of Value Reconciliation filing in ACE and CARM
  • Utilize Customs Valuation Reporting at the time of shipment to eliminate the post-entry Value-Reconciliation Process
  • Strategically focus on optimizing cost avoidance opportunities, utilizing preferential treatment of the applicable Free Trade Agreements
  • Manage and foster relationships with customs brokers, freight forwarders and service providers.
  • Maintain the highest ethical standards, even when challenged by management
  • Manage priorities, provide excellent customer service and timely responses/guidance, and complete projects on schedule
  • Stay abreast of economic and market dynamics to ensure effective capacity and budget planning
  • Support compliance by maintaining privacy and confidentiality of information, protecting the assets of the organization, acting with ethics and integrity, reporting non-compliance, and adhering to applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations as well as the Company’s policies and procedures
  • Support department budget preparation, analysis, and administration; monitors expenditures
  • Report potential or suspected export control violations or concerns to Leadership. Support activities needed to investigate suspected violations; ensure accuracy of all export compliance disclosures to the government; help develop remedial and corrective actions.
  • Review export compliance policies and procedures annually and lead export compliance self-assessments to identify opportunities for process improvements.

What do I need to be successful?

  • 5 + years of professional import-export compliance experience
  • 5+ years combined experience and work knowledge of ACE; Dow Jones Risk & Compliance; CARM experience a plus
  • 5+ years’ demonstrated experience in Global Trade Compliance\
  • Customs Broker License, strongly preferred
  • Program Management and organizational skills necessary to implement, maintain, improve, and monitor the company trade compliance program
  • Demonstrated knowledge of US and foreign Customs related agencies and their basic regulatory requirements
  • Demonstrated expertise with the US Customs and governmental regulatory agencies, Customs Valuation, Tariff classification, USMCA and/or other FTAs, ISF, INCOTERMS, Export Controls, and Restricted Parities Screening
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment, exercising leadership, self-initiative, sound judgement, and curiosity

Education

  • Business-related curriculum involving International Business or demonstrated equivalent experience

Work Environment

  • This position will be remote, working in a home office environment
  • May be required to work from Nashville office once per quarter
