Job Purpose


Provide leadership and direction for mid-sized capital projects/programs which are a direct component of a Business Line’s annual capital program. Assemble and lead cross-functional project teams through activities associated with project development, engineering, procurement, contracting, installation, start-up and commissioning within the framework of approved scope, schedule and budget. Supervise engineering staff where applicable.

Key Responsibilities


  • Provide leadership regarding the planning and execution of major capital projects or technology programs, with values up to $50 million, including: technical feasibility evaluations, detailed engineering design, procurement efforts, negotiating, contract development & management, contracting strategy, installation, start-up support and commissioning
  • Develop project scopes, budgets and schedules and manage performance against approved versions
  • Establish and manage a project document control system that is consistent with functional methods and procedures
  • Review all engineering to ensure compliance with LP’s design standards, industry & professional standards, local, state and federal codes and regulations
  • Supervise and manage assigned staff; recruit, train, coach, and evaluate performance
  • Conduct benchmarking and competitive research to keep up with best-of-class practices and to assure that our capital implementation methods lead the industry
  • Conduct training for engineering and other personnel in the areas of Project Management, Engineering, and Leadership
  • Participate as a sponsor or team member in leading functional process improvement within the company 
  • Assume responsibility for personal safety and for the safety performance of all personnel, projects and programs managed
  • Maintain Engineering records according to engineering procedures and corporate Records Retention Guidelines
  • Conduct special projects/studies, as opportunities arise, relating to technology and capital effectiveness
  • Moderate to heave travel requiring a flexible schedule is required





  • Minimum of 10 years experience as a practicing professional (3 associated with major project work) in one or more of the following fields; engineering, capital project management, manufacturing, business process development, auditing,
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering large, complex engineering projects through successful completion 
  • Demonstrated experience in leading cross-functional capital project teams
  • Or any combination of experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position
  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to implement professional Project Management practices, programs and tools
  • Possess excellent working knowledge of computer applications including; word processing, financial management systems
  • Knowledge of building products industry, equipment, and processes
  • The ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering to a variety of complex business problems
  • The ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data
  • The ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs
  • The ability to identify, formulate and solve engineering problems
  • A knowledge of contemporary engineering and business



  • BS in Engineering, Applied Science, or related field
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license desirable
  • BS equivalency: 6-8 years discipline experience
  • MS equivalence: 4-6 engineering management experience  
Work Environment


  • This position works in both an office environment and in a manufacturing environment.
  • Moderate to heavy travel requiring a flexible schedule is required.
