Job Purpose

To maintain the quality control of incoming logs, control the log yard and related inventory. To ensure compliance of appropriate rules and regulations by truck drivers delivering logs to LP facilities.

In this position you will have the opportunity to:

  • Ensure accurate weighing of log trucks as they arrive and as they leave.
  • Scale the logs in the samples
  • Ensure compliance with appropriate rules and regulations, ensuring drivers have appropriate licenses and certificates.
  • Inspect incoming logs to ensure compliance with the government and LP log quality standards; coordinate with Forest Resources when standards are not met.
  • Use and run the scaling software
  • Participate to the log yard inventory
  • Coordinate work with off-loaders and truck drivers to ensure accurate inventory records are maintained.
  • Maintain log yard in an organized manner to ensure optimum inventory capacity
  • Supervise the slashing of the logs to optimize the yield
  • Prepare daily and weekly reports.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with safety rules and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

What do I need to be successful?

  • Ability to supervise technical staff and implement research and monitoring field programs
  • Familiarity with provincial and federal legislation and guidelines pertaining to forest management, the conservation of biodiversity and endangered species
  • An understanding of forest industry business applications and the ability to develop annual budgets and track them
  • Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work well with internal and external customers and project a professional image
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment along with problem solving skills on a regular basis
  • Ability to understand and interpret policies and procedures accurately.
  • Attention to detail, high level of accuracy and function effectively as a team member. Provide leadership. Must be able to meet deadlines and function effectively under heavy workload

Education

  • High school diploma required.
  • Possession of appropriate Scaler's license/certificate required.
  • Current, valid driver's license.
