Job Purpose

To manage all wood procurement activities to ensure long term supply to Manufacturing facilities which meet company objectives for profitability.

In this position you will have the opportunity to:

  • Budget and forecast costs and volumes of raw materials
  • Hire, train, and manage performance of staff
  • Negotiate and supervise various contracts including logging, road construction, and transportation
  • Appraise and negotiate or bid private and government timber sale purchases
  • Monitor and report accomplishments and compare to budgets/goals
  • Ensure delivery of raw materials to mills meeting quality, quantity, and cost objectives
  • Provide timely information and participation in Mill Business Team decisions
  • Provide leadership to less experienced Resource Managers
  • Perform all duties in accordance with safety rules and regulations
  • Perform other duties as necessary
  • Sales and marketing of wood residuals

What do I need to be successful?

  • Skills, knowledge, abilities:

    * Strong communication and interpersonal skills

    * Thorough knowledge of company products

    * Ability to work in team environment

    * In-depth knowledge of general forestry principles and skills

    * Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills

    * Good organization skills

    * Knowledge of contracts and environmental regulations

    * Basic computer skills (Preferred proficiency in Microsoft suite especially Excel)

    * Driver’s license required

    * Basic understanding of wood scaling and wood specifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or equivalent experience
  • Experience:

    * 3 years supervisory experience

    * 7 years forestry experience (Preferred min 5+ years of forestry procurement experience)

    * Or any combination of experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position.

Work Environment

Outdoor environment subject to elements of nature

Frequent travel required at times
