Job Purpose

The IT Manufacturing Architect role is responsible for designing and implementing technology solutions that align shop floor operations with corporate strategic goals. This role acts as a critical bridge between factory floor systems (PLC/SCADA) and enterprise platforms (ERP/MES), ensuring all solutions are scalable, secure, and future ready for an AI-integrated manufacturing environment. The architect provides advanced design, technical expertise, and leadership to guide the IT Manufacturing Team in selecting, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting applications.

In this position you will have the opportunity to:

  • Design and manage total application & system architecture and technical environment, integrating application needs and technology trends with software capabilities to ensure that the company's strategic goals are met.
  • Primary focus will cover AVEVA’s MES solution from Automation systems layer through AVEVA’s MES to the Interfaces with SAP
  • Industry 4.0 Strategy: Architect the design and adoption of advanced technologies such as digital twins, IoT sensors, and computer vision systems for quality control.
  • Architect and help build the data foundation for predictive maintenance and real-time operational visualization to enhance efficiency and reduce waste utilizing utilizing AI and Machine Learning where applicable
  • Maintain detailed knowledge of business operations and provide guidance on how to best utilize software applications to support current and future business requirements
  • Collaborate with business leadership to ensure that current & future IT Manufacturing reporting needs are appropriately addressed
  • Provide advanced application and/or systems support and training
  • Provide architectural & technical oversight of IT projects and high level consultative services to businesses/functions
  • Design, coordinate and facilitate environment management with operations and system administration teams including data integrity and access, configuration and purchased software implementation
  • Develop and communicate technical standards and IT best practices
  • Maintain appropriate system security architecture and design new applications and interfaces with proper security protections in mind
  • Assign, review & coordinate work of IT Manufacturing Team personnel
  • Consult with management to clarify systems & programs intent, identify problems, suggest changes & determine extent of application system changes required
  • Performs other duties as assigned

What do I need to be successful?

  • 7+ years of demonstrated related experience in two or more areas of specialty
  • 3+ years of experience in the architectural design and development of MES solution utilizing AVEVA MES, preferably their Module Driven Solution
  • Or any equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position
  • Demonstrative End-to-End Knowledge of AVEVA’s MES Solution, covering from Automation systems through AVEVA’s MES to the Interfaces with an ERP (preferably SAP)
  • Excellent understanding of relational database concepts, conventions, transact-sql, programming toolsets and system performance
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of AVEVA applications including MES, Historian, Historian Client, BI Gateway, Connect, and System Platform
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of two or more areas of technical specialization
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of hardware and software
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft SQL Server Report Services (SSRS), and Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) at a system level
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of good programming practices, targeting at least one of Microsoft Visual Studio's VB.Net and ASP.Net, or C#.Net and system development methodologies
  • Excellent understanding of Company manufacturing processes & constraints and of plant operations
  • Strong technical leadership and design skills
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills targeting multiple levels of the organization and group sizes
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Ability to analyze business needs and to create IT solutions
  • Ability to learn and apply new technologies
  • Advanced SQL capabilities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of System Development Life Cycle principles & practices
  • Ability to teach and explain new concepts and techniques in a straightforward and understandable manner
  • Understanding of the principles around Sarbanes-Oxley, and the impact on design and audit

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field. Master’s degree preferred
  • Specialized certifications desirable

Work Environment

  • This is a remote role with the United States
  • Environment includes a combination of office and manufacturing environments.
  • Travel up to 40% of time is required to work on projects, provide solution consulting, and train at our manufacturing plants and corporate office
