Job Purpose

To perform and supervise; log scaling, log quality control, log yard inventory, log payments and process trucks.

In this position you will have the opportunity to:

  • Ensure that health and Safety standards and unloading, scaling procedures are understood and followed in log yard
  • Prepare documents, reports, inventory reports, and reports to the ministry, LP Woodlands office and LP plant
  • Control the quality of the wood delivered in the log yard
  • Develop the scaling samples plan for the crown and private wood
  • Maintain log inventory and calculate the plant yield
  • Determination of the weight-volume conversion factors
  • Manage the stumpage payments to the government and the wood payments to the contractors, other companies and private producers ( up to 25 million $/year).
  • Manage the wood sales (bush and log yard).
  • Manage and enter the data in the scale software
  • Track the SFI chain of custody volumes
  • Participate to the determination of the log yard wood sale prices
  • Participate in the log and haul contracts preparation
  • Assist in the preparation of the monthly delivery schedule
  • Program the computer files for the contractor payments and the bush loaders.
  • Process the weighing of loaded and empty log trucks, wax, resin and hog fuel trucks.
  • Ensure that the scales are routinely maintained and functioning within the Federal Weights and measures guidelines.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with safety rules and regulations
  • Perform other duties as necessary

What do I need to be successful?

  • High school diploma required.
  • Appropriate Log Scaling license/certificate required.
  • Thorough knowledge of the green end log requirements
  • Knowledge of the LP environmental management system, forest management and wood fiber utilization
  • Broad knowledge and experience with government regulations, logging utilization standards, log scaling regulations and grading rules
  • Skills in computer and scaling/payment software (Cengea,Felix)
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Education

  • High school diploma required
  • Appropriate Log Scaling license/certificate required
