Job Purpose

Provide engineering support and capital project management in a manufacturing setting at the Hanceville, AL OSB mill. Execute annual mill capital plan and assist with mill maintenance planning. Examine equipment, processes, operations and makes improvement recommendations that are aligned with predetermined objectives. Independently manage and coordinate installation and/or construction activities related to capital and technical projects in a plant setting.

In this position you will have the opportunity to:

  • Manage a capital program consisting of 12+ projects, valued up to $10 million across a single facility.
  • Provide overall leadership for engineering projects/programs through capital project scope, schedule, and budget development as well as execution/implementation management.
  • Plan and execute all aspects of a capital project or technology initiative up to $5 million in size including basic data gathering, engineering evaluation, scope-of-work development, preliminary design, cost estimation, financial analysis, detailed design review, contract negotiation, and detailed scheduling.
  • Assist with maintenance initiatives such as preventative / predictive system, chronic failure resolution, and EOM project implementation.
  • Develop budget and manage performance against it for projects/programs managed.
  • Provide engineering input to business and mill for the development of strategic and operating plans.
  • Assume responsibility for personal safety and for the safety performance of all personnel, projects and programs managed.
  • Provide engineering/technical advice to co-workers in all businesses and functions.
  • Conduct training for engineering and other personnel in the areas of Engineering and Capital Project Management.
  • Maintain Engineering records according to corporate Records Retention Guidelines.
  • Work closely with Mill Team and Corporate Functions including Procurement, Supply Management, Audit, Finance, Environmental Services, and Information Technology to assure conformance with corporate policy.
  • Conduct special projects/studies, as opportunities arise, relating to technology and capital effectiveness.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

What do I need to be successful?

Skills, knowledge, abilities:

  • Capital Project Management experience from ideation to execution.
  • Experience developing project scopes, detailed schedules, and budgets.
  • Familiarity with reviewing multi-disciplinary engineering drawings and plans.
  • Ability to proficiently navigate Microsoft Product suite, including Sharepoint, Word, Excel, Project, and Teams.
  • Familiarity with Life-Cycle planning and long-term capitalization techniques for manufacturing facilities.
  • Familiarity with world-class manufacturing techniques, including Just-In-Time, Lean Manufacturing, and Computer-Integrated Manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with building products industry, equipment, and processes.
  • The ability to apply knowledge of mathematics. science, and engineering to a variety of complex business problems.
  • The ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data.
  • The ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs.
  • The ability to function on multi-disciplinary teams.
  • The ability to identify, formulate and solve engineering problems.
  • An understanding of professional and ethical responsibility.
  • The ability to communicate effectively — both verbal and written.
  • The broad education and experience necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global and societal context.
  • A recognition of the need for and an ability to engage in life-long learning.
  • The ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.

Education

  • BS in Engineering, Applied Science, or related field.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification or Professional Engineering (PE) license is of interest

Experience:

  • 7+ years experience as a practicing professional in one or more of the following fields; engineering, capital project management, manufacturing, operations, maintenance
  • Experience developing capital project scope, schedule, and budget documentation
  • Experience in managing engineering programs/projects up to $5 million in size desirable
  • Demonstrated ability to complete multiple project cycles
  • Or any combination of experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position

Work Environment

  • Hybrid Work Schedule available – A minimum of 3 days per week in manufacturing environment at Hanceville, AL mill is expected with up to 2 days working remotely from home office. Hybrid work schedule may be affected by job performance and business needs.
  • Light/infrequent travel to the LP Corporate HQ in Nashville, TN or to other OSB mills may be required as business needs arise
