Job Purpose

To ensure that controls and instrument loops throughout the mill remain up to standards and production requirements

In this position you will have the opportunity to:

  • Responsible for insuring all PLC changes are documented and archived
  • Responsible for updating/troubleshooting controls & instrument loops throughout the plant
  • Involved in all capital updates and most process control improvements or changes
  • Balance priorities to business need: 1) Do it now, 2) Short term projects, and 3) Long term projects
  • Identify and develop plans for continuous improvement of the process
  • Collect data and execute plans accordingly
  • Train electrical staff in troubleshooting PLC issues and control issues; document process and maintain annual training
  • Write SOP’s on troubleshooting and correcting issues that cause downtime in the mill
  • Assist with planning and designing network upgrades and new installs
  • Know and understand network switches and hubs
  • Perform other duties as necessary.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with safety rules and regulations.

 

What do I need to be successful?

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Computer skills preferred: Windows/Microsoft Office/RS Logix/Wonder Ware/ EAM
  • Extensive Process knowledge
  • Instrumentation skills (preferred):
            Calibration of Transmitters, Pressure, Flow and Temperature
            Calibration of Control Valves
            Calibration of scales
            Ability to tune PID loops on all processes/equipment
  • Ability to use Fluke multi-meters and other troubleshooting equipment
  • Motor Control knowledge
  • PLC Skills:
            Troubleshooting Allen Bradley PLC 5000, Control Logix, & others as required
            Programming knowledge required

               Back up and store PLC programs

  • AC & DC Variable speed drives knowledge
  • Ability to collect and trend motor data
  • Analytical step problem solving skills
  • Self-motivation
  • Customer skills
  • Able to work with all departments

 

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical degree preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years industrial electrical experience
  • Or any combination of experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position.
