Job Purpose

To plan, lead and manage the silviculture program according to LP's forest management plans

Key Responsibilities

  • Personal, team and contractor safety - Demonstrate a commitment to our safety culture by actively participating in the Safety Program and performing all duties in accordance with safety rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Manage the performance of Silviculture contractors.
  • Manage and coordinate all LP Peace Valley’s silviculture program activities in a deciduous/coniferous mixedwood environment.  This will include post-harvest assessments, site preparation, hazard abatement, rehabilitation programs, planting/reforestation, silviculture surveys, brushing, weeding, and spraying programs.
  • Data management, information quality control, spatial tracking, analyzing, and submitting results for reforestation activities and legislated reporting requirements.
  • Prepare contracts, negotiate rates, hire and manage contractors to achieve silviculture plan objectives.
  • Develop, and track performance of an annual silviculture budget that achieves the financial targets of the Forest Resources Division.
  • Work and form positive relationships with LP team members, industry, First Nations, Government agencies, the public and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with the Area Forest Manager II to support the preparation and review of the monthly reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with operational plans, company policies, safety program, Sustainable Forestry Initiative certification and legal requirements.
  • Strategic planning and communication with Area Forest Manager II and Harvesting Superintendent to ensure LP success.
  • Achieve key performance measures by participating in LP's performance management system.
  • Plan, participate, and/or lead other team projects as requested.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge of ecosystems and ecosystem functions, harvesting and silviculture systems
  • Team player with excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, interpersonal & project management skillls with the ability ot work within a team environment
  • Ability to plan, coordinate resources and be adapative
  • Knowledge of applicable British Columbia forestry and safety legislation
  • Proficient in using a computer & related softward and Forestry applications including GIS
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with the ability to drive in a variety of field and highway conditions
  • Registered Professional Forerster preferred

Education:

  • Degree, diploma, or extensive operational background in the related field of work.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years forestry experience
