Job Purpose
To ensure fire loss prevention equipment, suppression systems and employee response programs are maintained to be reliable and effective in the event of a fire emergency.
In this position you will have the opportunity to:
Participate with Safety and Environmental Technicians and Managers in monitoring and controlling LP’s Fire standards in accordance with corporate policy, OSHA and State codes and regulations.
Perform fire inspections and surveys to ensure compliance with LP’s policies, procedures, regulations and standards.
Perform inspections and/or predictive/preventative maintenance of fire prevention & suppression systems and portable fire equipment.
Troubleshoot fire suppression and detection issues. Refer complex issues to more experienced staff or outside vendors.
Train and audit employees in proper use of site fire protective equipment.
Coordinate annual employee fire SOP and incipient fire refresher training.
Ensure the availability and readiness of fire prevention equipment and devices.
Schedule, conduct and maintain records of fire prevention equipment tests.
Utilize the EAM work order system to schedule and document inspections, maintenance and other corrective actions. Annual, quarterly, monthly, weekly and daily inspections and maintenance.
Maintain fire and safety related training records and records for individual employees.
Work with senior staff to review and analyze the effectiveness of current fire safety programs.
Report non-compliance or hazardous conditions and suggest remedies.
Respond to emergency situations involving fire and smoke incidents within the facility.
Perform all duties in accordance with safety rules and regulations.
Perform other maintenance duties as assigned.
Provide Fire system orientation to new hires
Write S.O. P’s and develop employee training as needed.
Coordinate and document corporate insurance inspections and drive improvement initiatives based on feedback
Manage fire systems projects, approve sprinkler drawings, and coordinate contractors
Manage hot work program and ensure compliance with NFPA codes and best practices
Manage fire pond maintenance program
Obtain all relevant training, certifications, and permits as required
What do I need to be successful?
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of federal, state and local industrial health, safety, fire prevention rules, regulations and related strategies is desirable. (NFPA regulations for general industry, LP Sagola Fire and Loss prevention Program)
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to learn new policies and procedures and to communicate and encourage support from plant employees.
Strong organization skills; close attention to detail.
Ability to coordinate activities affecting diverse groups of employees.
Ability to lead and motivate individuals and teams to achieve program and project outcomes.
Ability to operate a computer and support software.
Strong mechanical/maintenance background
Ability to safely operate manlift/skyjack and comfortably work at heights
EXPERIENCE
Knowledge of Industrial Fire systems
General work experience in a manufacturing environment.
Previous exposure to plant health and safety policies, procedures and administration preferred.
Or any equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent desired
Relevant technical or post-secondary skills desirable.
LSS training preferred
