Job Purpose
As an Environmental Specialist, you will be responsible for implementing corporate and business-level environmental policies, procedures, and programs at the plant level. You will serve as a key liaison between the Plant Manager and environmental agencies, advocating for plant-specific needs while ensuring compliance with all environmental regulations. A major focus of this role is managing and enhancing the plant’s Environmental Management System (EMS).

In this position you will have the opportunity to:
- Advise the Plant Manager, EH&S Manager, and site leadership on environmental compliance matters
- Manage reporting for regulatory issues such as spills, releases, and emergencies in accordance with legal requirements
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the Environmental Management System (EMS)
- Ensure accurate environmental recordkeeping and routine reporting
- Stay up-to-date on federal, provincial, and local environmental regulations
- Interact with environmental regulatory bodies and participate in agency inspections
- Schedule and conduct monitoring, sampling, and compliance testing of permitted processes and pollution control systems
- Submit annual reports to relevant regulatory agencies
- Support maintenance programs related to environmental permit requirements
- Participate in environmental project planning and execution
- Oversee waste management, recycling programs, and water quality monitoring/reporting
- Manage the plant’s environmental budget
- Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments
- Wear a respirator and perform duties involving climbing ladders when required
- Take on additional responsibilities as needed
What do I need to be successful?
- 3–5 years of experience in the environmental field; industrial experience preferred
- Working knowledge of federal environmental regulations; willingness to learn provincial and local rules
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to analyze data and apply critical thinking
- Solid time and resource management abilities
- Experience driving change and process improvements
- Basic financial and budgeting knowledge
Education
- Degree, diploma, or certification in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
