Job Purpose

LP is seeking a detail-oriented Computer Aided Design (CAD) Technician to join our team.  The ideal candidate will be responsible for collaborating with internal customers and creating 2D and 3D illustrations used for a variety of technical documents.  This position requires a high level of technical knowledge and a strong understanding of CAD software.  A candidate will have excellent communication skills and will thrive in a team-focused approach.  

In this position you will have the opportunity to:

  • Use CAD software to create 2D and 3D drawings based on projects, supporting multiple internal departments  
  • Update CAD details and illustrations for technical documents
  • Organizing and maintaining CAD files in Microsoft SharePoint
  • Ensure drawings are accurate, complete, and meet quality and technical standards  
  • Incorporate feedback and make changes to drawings as needed
  • Present drawings to individuals involved in various project stages  
  • Create documentation packages and drawing sets
  • Develop knowledge of LP building products for residential, multi-family and light-commercial structures
  • May participate in the development/updating of new/current training materials for customers, builders, contractors, distributors, dealers, specifiers and third-party officials
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What do I need to be successful?

  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and SketchUp
  • Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat with the ability to edit PDF documents
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint
  • Highly detail-oriented, identifying errors or consistencies and incorporating edits across all effected documents
  • Ability to translate rough sketches, specifications, and ideas into detailed drawings 
  • Excellent reporting, writing, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Excellent collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Ability to read architectural and structural construction plans or CAD details
  • Strong understanding of construction process and equipment
  • Some overnight travel required
  • 90% of time working in a home office setting
  • 10% of time working in a testing or manufacturing environment or on a job site
  • Knowledge of LP products and applications
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship-building skills, including active listening and overcoming objections
  • Ability to operate effectively within multi-discipline teams
  • Valid driver’s license and solid driving record
  • Bilingual: French or Spanish speaking preferred
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite like InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
  • Experience using 3D animation software

Education

  • Associate degree in engineering, building science, basic sciences, architecture, construction management or construction related fields, or any equivalent experience or certification that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position.

Work Environment

  • This position will be remote, working in a home office environment
  • Occasional manufacturing environment
