Job Description:
Job Purpose
Provide support to Siding R&D scientists and engineers and LP’s business teams in the evaluation and analysis of current and emerging products, processes, raw materials and competitive products.
In this position you will have the opportunity to:
- Provide support for research related to implementation of new concepts/technology on LP Siding Team.
- Plan and conduct sample preparations, trials and tests at LP Siding R&D Facility and LP plants as necessary.
- Perform physical, chemical, and analytical testing on current and emerging LP products
- Generate critical data from trials that lead to achieving product and process development goals
- Perform sample installation and collect weathering data from various sites across North America
- Maintain organized records of all data, test protocols, and standard operating procedures
- Document and analyze data generated in LP labs and at weathering sites
- Prepare and present reports and presentations that communicate clear and well supported conclusions and recommendations
- Assist other technicians and engineers on product assemblies and prototyping and perform other duties as necessary
- Collaborate with other functions including Safety, Environmental, Human Resources, Quality, Engineering, Marketing & Sales, and Operations.
- Perform all duties in accordance with safety rules and regulations and maintain safe laboratory and plant environments.
What do I need to be successful?
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of scientific principles and testing procedures.
- Experience with lab/analytical instruments and pilot-scale equipment is preferred
- Strong attention to detail and high standards for data accuracy, organization, and reporting
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Good written and oral communication skills, including skills in writing technical reports.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Proficient in standard office software applications
- Strong work ethic, willingness to learn, desire to grow, initiative, and flexibility
Experience:
- 0-3 year of experience in process or product development, laboratory work or technical support role.
- Or any equivalent combination of experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Science (Chemistry, Physical Science, Wood Science, etc.), Engineering or related field.
Work Environment
- Working with pilot or test plant equipment, chemical and test labs and manufacturing sites.
- Based at the Siding R&D facility in Roaring River, NC
- Some travel required – up to 40%.
